Hi Dan, what an interesting article, echoing Andrews comments really, but it's so refreshing to read an article that examines the ends landscape photographers go to in order to capture that elusive shot. Great read and thanks for sharing!
Thanks, Barney

Yep, I love me some 70-200mm f/4 L for my landscape work. Honestly, whenever I've gotten that 'whoa' factor, 9 times out of 10 it's been with that lens.

Excellent post Dan! I really had no idea I could do all that with my iPad. It was the camera connection kit that was the missing link! I take my iMac with me in the RV, but I can see this as an excellent way to go for times I travel without the RV. I use a netbook usually in these cases just to store images, but the resolution is so bad I cannot use it to judge the quality of the images let alone edit and share them.

Gabi, I hadn't seen that Belkin charger. There are so many different options out there, and a small portable battery pack is probably the most compact solution for remote iPhone power.

Thanks for this, Dan. Certainly useful. Do you have experience with any iPhone solar chargers which just serve as a shell/ case for the phone? Like a Belkin bumper, just with solar cells on the back? (also see, e.g., http://www.a-solar.eu/NL/iphone_chargers_power_pack_iphone.htm) I've not seen any extended reviews for them, but since I love to pack light when traveling and never have a car with me, those seem to be a great space-saving option - not only for outdoor trips, but in general. Just don't know whether they're any good.
