(To me, the term would seem more appropriate for a action photographer, but maybe I\u2019m just biased.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Essentially, The Decisive Moment refers to a single fleeting moment that is captured by a photographer who was in the right place at the right time. In real life, that \u201cdecisive moment\u201d might have gone by so fast that most of us probably didn\u2019t see it happen, or if we did, we just saw it within the context of the rest of the unfolding action. The term simply refers to pressing the shutter at just the right time so as to freeze a &#8220;special moment.&#8221;\u00a0( I can&#8217;t believe I just used that term!!) It\u00a0refers to\u00a0an image that\u00a0ends up describing\u00a0our own ideas about a particular\u00a0event or subject, even if we were there to see it for ourselves.<\/p>\n<p>In that way, the photographer who captures the specific instant with their camera actually helps define the scene for the rest of the world through the power of the image. Most of us didn\u2019t <a href=\"http:\/\/iconicphotos.wordpress.com\/2009\/08\/27\/ali-vs-liston\/\">see\u00a0the great\u00a0<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/iconicphotos.wordpress.com\/2009\/08\/27\/ali-vs-liston\/\">Ali knock Sonny Liston to the canvas, but we know this photo<\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/iconicphotos.wordpress.com\/2009\/08\/27\/ali-vs-liston\/\">.<\/a>\u00a0And most of us h<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">ave not seen the Potala Palace, but when we think of it, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mountainlight.com\/gallery.tibet\/images.html\">Galen Rowell\u2019s famous image comes to mind.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>And of course, there&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/iconicphotos.wordpress.com\/2009\/09\/15\/jane-goodall\/\">this famous photo of Jane Goodall?<\/a><\/p>\n<p>However, not all great photographs are rooted in capturing and freezing a specific moment in time. In fact, many powerful images are based on a photographer\u2019s personal interpretation and unique representation of a subject that has been seen, and perhaps photographed by many other people.
