{"id":20905,"date":"2018-02-09T12:52:54","date_gmt":"2018-02-09T21:52:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/danbaileyphoto.com\/blog\/?p=20905"},"modified":"2019-01-04T11:34:18","modified_gmt":"2019-01-04T20:34:18","slug":"dont-fall-into-this-trap-with-your-photography","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/danbaileyphoto.com\/blog\/dont-fall-into-this-trap-with-your-photography\/","title":{"rendered":"Don&#8217;t Fall Into This Trap With Your Photography"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-20906\" src=\"http:\/\/danbaileyphoto.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/JAN-18-01272A.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"467\" srcset=\"https:\/\/danbaileyphoto.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/JAN-18-01272A.jpg 700w, https:\/\/danbaileyphoto.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/JAN-18-01272A-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/danbaileyphoto.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/JAN-18-01272A-600x400.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"definition-parent\">\n<div class=\"paragraph\">\n<p>Today&#8217;s\u00a0photography tip\u00a0isn&#8217;t so much a photography tip, as it is a life tip.<strong>\u00a0Consider it a Public\u00a0Service Announcement.\u00a0<\/strong>I\u00a0feel compelled to share it with you today, because I want to make sure that you&#8217;re starting your year off on the right foot and not getting too wrapped up in\u00a0things that ultimately don&#8217;t make your\u00a0photography any\u00a0better.<\/p>\n<p>During workshops, on forums\u00a0and via email\u00a0correspondence, <strong>I see some photographers who focus so\u00a0hard on the\u00a0extremely technical\u00a0aspects of this craft<\/strong>, and they often end\u00a0up\u00a0confusing themselves and making\u00a0it harder for them to\u00a0open their minds and find their\u00a0creative vision.<\/p>\n<p>Magazines, camera forums\u00a0and many blogs (certainly not mine, though!), are full of articles\u00a0which\u00a0lead you to believe that certain\u00a0technical\u00a0aspects\u00a0of your digital sensor will determine\u00a0whether your\u00a0camera is\u00a0capable of\u00a0making great photos.<\/p>\n<p>Naturally, some\u00a0people read these articles and fall into the endless pit of speculation and worry\u00a0that their\u00a0camera might not produce the same\u00a0high\u00a0quality imagery\u00a0as some other\u00a0camera. <strong>It<\/strong><strong>\u00a0becomes an\u00a0endless, and sometimes hopeless cycle<\/strong>, and sadly it does noone any good,\u00a0except the\u00a0magazines and blogs who get\u00a0the clicks.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>You know what I&#8217;m going to say next, don&#8217;t you?<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-20907\" src=\"http:\/\/danbaileyphoto.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/SEP17-01094.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"467\" srcset=\"https:\/\/danbaileyphoto.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/SEP17-01094.jpg 700w, https:\/\/danbaileyphoto.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/SEP17-01094-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/danbaileyphoto.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/SEP17-01094-600x400.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"definition-parent\">\n<div class=\"paragraph\">\n<div>\n<h3><strong>It\u00a0isn&#8217;t the camera\u00a0that makes the pictures great, it&#8217;s you<\/strong>.<\/h3>\n<p>The\u00a0truth is that when we&#8217;re talking modern DSLRs and\u00a0mirrorless cameras,\u00a0<strong>EVERY SINGLE\u00a0CAMERA ON THE MARKET\u00a0<\/strong><strong>has a great sensor<\/strong> and EVERY SINGLE CAMERA ON THE MARKET has the tools that will <strong>let you take wonderful,\u00a0beautiful, visually captivating imagery<\/strong> that will wow you and your\u00a0viewers.<\/p>\n<p>And, I GUARANTEE, with near 100%\u00a0certainty, that if your\u00a0capture an\u00a0amazing moment in gorgeous light with compelling compositional techniques, <strong>NO ONE ON EARTH will\u00a0care if it has a little bit of noise<\/strong>, and <strong>NO ONE ON EARTH<\/strong> will\u00a0speculate how it might be improved ever so\u00a0slightly if you\u00a0had shot it on a\u00a0camera with a bigger sensor. <strong>And if they do, then they aren&#8217;t the right\u00a0people with whom you\u00a0should be sharing your awesome,\u00a0heartfelt imagery.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sure,\u00a0some cameras will show a remarkably slight variance\u00a0in noise when shooting\u00a0in low light, and some cameras will render detail with slightly more\u00a0resolution and edge sharpness when you zoom in and view all the\u00a0pixels at 100%.<\/p>\n<p>But your viewers won&#8217;t do that. And they won&#8217;t\u00a0care. <strong>And\u00a0neither\u00a0should you.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The bottom line is that <strong>if you love using your\u00a0camera<\/strong>, if it makes you WANT to go take pictures, if you have fun when you shoot <strong>and you like your imagery, then that&#8217;s all\u00a0that really\u00a0matters. <\/strong>Worrying about the\u00a0extremely\u00a0technical stuff that\u00a0doesn&#8217;t really matter in the end only takes away from your\u00a0enjoyment\u00a0of the process. It certainly won&#8217;t make you a &#8220;better&#8221; or more creatively\u00a0fulfilled photographer.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t fall into that trap. Don&#8217;t become a statistic on some overly\u00a0technical camera\u00a0forum, and for pete&#8217;s sake, don&#8217;t worry about the stuff that\u00a0doesn&#8217;t matter.
