New Album Coming!

albums, music, new music, original songs

I’m excited to announce the upcoming release of my brand new album, which is scheduled for release next Tuesday, April 27!

It’s called “Up Higher,” and it features a number of all new vocal and instrumental tracks that I’ve been working on for the past few months.

Here’s a quick preview of one of the songs, called “What Will Remain,” which reflects the mental and emotional rollercoaster we’ve all been dealing with during the past year, and the feelings we have whenever we emerge from a transformative time or event.

In fact, I would say that the entire album has been influenced by my own introspection, not only during the pandemic, but during the past few years.

I’ve often struggled as songwriter, so when a cool sounding guitar riff, title, or lyric idea came to me, I forced myself to pay attention the ideas it evoked, and then cultivated those ideas over the course of a few weeks or months. I often worked on songs in my mind when I was out walking or riding my snow bike.

The leadoff song, “Can’t Look Past Ourselves,” began as a spontaneous demo a number of years ago. I felt it had a lot of potential, so let it gestate in my mind, and revisited it every few months, finally finishing it this winter.

Two of the pieces are instrumentals that were created as soundtracks to my short adventure films. They were basically written with the guitar in hand, playing in the moment, while watching my aerial mountain footage go by on the screen.

The end result is a collection of some of the best songs I feel I’ve ever written, and the process and timely nature of some of the pieces makes it the most personal music I’ve ever made.

And of course, being a rock album, it’s filled with lots of juicy, crunchy electric guitars and stuff; just the kind of music I love to listen to. I’m really proud of how it’s turned out, and I can’t wait for you to hear it!

Up Higher is titled to reflect the positive feel and messages that many often songs evoke, and the idea of trying to climb higher and raise the bar in life, no matter what you’re doing. Plus there’s the fact that I like to fly up above the mountains in my little Cessna. You know, a play on words.

The album features eight songs, most of which were written and recorded during the past 14 months. It also contains a couple of older songs that I felt fit well within this collection. Watch for the release next Tuesday!

Track List:

  1. Can’t Look Past Ourselves
  2. Ricochet
  3. Dr. Fauci Say
  4. Soaring in The Ravens’ Playground
  5. What Will Remain
  6. Get Off Your Ass
