I’m excited to announce that I have a brand new single coming out in April, called Interstellar Love Song.
A modern rock love song that crosses the bounds of space, time and pop culture references, this fun, upbeat track features a thick bed of buzzy, delay-soaked synthesizers, a catchy chorus and lots of guitars.
Fueled by a memorable synth riff that I came up with last fall, I quickly created a demo version of the song and wrote the initial framework of the chorus while walking to one of my shoulder physical therapy appointments in the snow.
After finishing the lyrics this spring, I recorded the initial tracks about two weeks ago, then followed up with one more vocal overdub session and then threw the final guitar solo on before finishing the mix this week.
I’m really excited about this song, and I can’t wait for you to hear it! I think it’s some of my best songwriting to date, plus I love some of the pop culture references I threw in, and I think it’s the best sounding mix ever.
Better Headphones
Part of that is due to the fact that it was recorded, mixed and mastered on my new Beyerdynamic DT Pro X 900 open-back studio headphones, which have an incredible level of fidelity and a very flat response. They sound amazing, but without coloring the sound or accentuating the bass, as many headphones do.
I don’t have an especially good sounding room in my small “bedroom studio,” so I’ve found that mixing on these headphones gives me the best possible results for my environment.
Better Vocals
In addition, I’ve been working on my vocal techniques a lot during the past few months, and so I feel that Interstellar Love Song features my best efforts as a singer.
Not only does this new song highlight what I think is the most pleasing timber of my natural voice, it shows off an emerging level of skill as a vocalist, with techniques and range that exceed anything I’ve ever done before.
Drops on April 20, 2022
The official release date for Interstellar Love Song is April 20, 2022. That’s when you’ll be able to stream it on your favorite music service, or purchase it if you wish.
So mark your calendar, and who knows… I might even give you a preview before then!
