Winter Trail Running Shoot

By Dan

January 6, 2009

I did a trail running shoot over the weekend and learned a few important things about shooting in the winter in Alaska:

1. As soon as it comes up, the sun pretty much sets all day. Winter light up here is gorgeous and this time of year, it is so close to the horizon that the golden light of sunset is present throughout the entire day.

2. Keep from freezing your nose against the ice cold camera back. No explanation needed.

3. The thermos full of Baileys and hot chocolate really helps!

  • Excellent shots Dan! Burr. I freeze just looking at them! The coldest weather I have ever experienced was zero degrees (Markleeville, California). And that was only 1 time!

  • Awesome photos. I was born and raised in this state and I like seeing photos like these that capture Alaska’s natural beauty. Excellent job!
